Barn Wedding Photography – Alex & Jack’s Autumnal Fitzleroi Barn Wedding

Alex & Jack’s barn wedding photography at Fitzleroi Barn near Pulborough in West Sussex. Alex got ready at Chequers hotel in Pulborough, and the quaint cottage bedrooms were great for bridal prep photos and getting shots of the wedding dress hanging up on the four poster bed. We were really lucky with the weather, and the autumnal leaves gave us some great colours for the photography at this barn wedding.

Barn Wedding Photography

I met Jack at Fitzelroi Barn for some wedding photography with the groomsmen. The fairy lights in the barn were a great backdrop for the wedding rings photograph and Jack and the guys looked sharp in burgundy, paisley ties matched with grey suits and white shirts, finished with a buttonhole of autumnal foliage. I love the colours of autumn weddings and Alex & Jack had gone for burgundy, dusty pink, sage green and natural colours.

Fitzleroi Barn weddings have an intimate feel in the cosy civil ceremony room, with fairy lights all around! We always do confetti shots immediately out of the barn doors after the ceremony, which looks great using the dark wood of the barn exterior as a backdrop. The wall of vines on the side of the building was great for group photographs of the family and I used the fields as a backdrop for the photographs of the bridal party. I’ve photographed this wedding venue a few times before and though I love the landscape around the back of the barn with views of the South Downs, I wanted to try different compositions too.

A West Sussex Countryside Wedding

A barn wedding with autumnal style

You’ll spot one of the engagement photographs used as a cover for the guest book, and Alex had made the wedding cake herself (I know, crazy right?!) They had named all of the tables after different places in the Lake District, with postcards as table decoration, along with the wooden slabs of trunks and glass bottles with flowers on the tables. The wedding favours were charity pin badges for Debra.

After a few speeches with a couple of tears and a lot of laughs, we cut the cake and had the first dance, which was beautifully lit with festoon lighting in the barn that Alex & Jack had added themselves. For a final shot at the end of this shift of barn wedding photography, I wanted to try something really creative. The sky was really clear and blanketed with stars (the countryside of West Sussex in one of my favourite places for star gazing). A long exposure and a bit of flash fired once to highlight the bride and groom allowed me to capture this starry night photograph over the West Sussex countryside.
